Mentone Pre School

We are an independently incorporated sessional kindergarten, owned and run by the community since 1958.

We provide high-quality, play-based and open-ended educational programs that celebrate each child's individuality.

We value every child's right to play in an inclusive, warm and nurturing environment.

Mentone Pre School acknowledges the traditional owners of the land on which we learn and grow, the Bunurong people of the Kulin Nation. We pay our respects to elders past and present.

We are a Child Safe organisation.

Exceeding National Quality standards

At Mentone Pre School we believe every child is capable, unique and innately inquisitive about their world.

We offer a nurturing opportunity for children to grow, for parents and carers to participate in the community as well as shape the curriculum and activities.

  • Community

Mentone Pre School is an independent incorporated body. Meaning all parents are members who effectively own the Pre School collectively. We are owned and run by the community. Our parent-elected committee undertake the organisation of the services for 12 months each year.

  • Bush kinder

Bush Kinder was developed in response to research that shows outdoor activities in a natural environment are extremely beneficial to a child's health, wellbeing and development. We offer Bush Kinder in our 4 year old program, so children can play, learn and explore.

  • Long days

All our groups receive 15 hours of government funded kindergarten per week. We offer full-day sessions from 8.30am - 4pm in our 3 year old and 4 year old programs.

Our Pre School

Mentone Pre School is conveniently tucked away in the heart of Mentone, with easy access by train, bus and car.

Step behind the private entrance to see our wonderful play space that extends into an expansive garden playground with native fauna, large sand pit, play equipment and an outdoor billabong with a water pump and mud kitchen.

Here is the land, Here is the sky, Here are my friends, and here am I. We give thanks to the Bunurong people for the land on which we learn and grown. Hands up, hands down, we are on Bunurong ground.

Mentone Pre School acknowledge the Bunurong People of the Kulin Nation as the traditional owners of the land on which we learn, work and play. We pay our respects to elders past, present and emerging. We also acknowledge that the Bunurong People of this land maintain their knowledge through an oral tradition practiced for generations. We value building and celebrating knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples culture, history and connection to country.

Our curriculum proudly incorporates the rich history of the First Peoples as well as exploring the diverse cultures that constitute our community.

Our Child Safety Commitment statement

At Mentone Preschool, the Educators, Committee and Parents are committed to the rights of all children to feel safe, and to be safe at all times.

We work hard to meet child safe standards, to ensure child safety, health and wellbeing is embedded right throughout our service, and to provide a safe environment for all children, including Aboriginal children and their families.

We actively promote the cultural safety of Aboriginal children, the cultural safety of children from culturally and/or linguistically diverse backgrounds, and the safety of children with additional needs.

We acknowledge and value the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the child, and the fundamental importance of equity, diversity and inclusiveness in our community.

Safe and inclusive environments for all children are created, encouraging them to actively participate, to have a voice and share their ideas, and to learn, grow and develop. It is through our policies and procedures, adhering to the Reportable conduct scheme, education, professional learning, reflective practice and positive action, that enables us to act in the best interests of every child.

We have a zero tolerance approach to child abuse, harm, racism and gender inequality.
