Our kinder friends grow and change so quickly, and every day they are learning through their play. Whether it’s developing literacy and numeracy skills, building social connections, practising turn-taking, or strengthening fine and gross motor skills, these experiences all contribute to their learning journey.
At Mentone Pre School, we communicate our program and children’s development in a variety of ways. One of the key ways we do this is through our Reflection Books.
Our Reflection Books include the teachers’ weekly programming, along with the learning intentions and outcomes for the group. This documentation aligns with the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and supports educators to record learning, track group progress, and reflect on our teaching practices.
The Reflection Books are updated regularly by our team. Sometimes this may be once a week, while at other times it may be two or three times a week, depending on the children’s learning, our observations, and any special events or experiences.
We encourage all families to take the time to look through the Reflection Books. They are a wonderful way to stay connected with what your child is experiencing in the program and to see their learning in action.
Where to find the Reflection books?
Our Reflection are on display in the room at the start of each session and in the foyer the rest of the time. They are available at any time for parents to look at. We encourage you to arrive a little bit earlier to pick up or spend a few minutes after drop off each week to have a look.
Parents and caregivers are encouraged to take part in our stay and play program where they can spend 2 or 3 hours in the classroom with their child's group to engage and observe. Once children have settled into their routines, teachers will reach out via Audiri to let you know when and how to sign up.
If members of our community have a special skill they can share, all the better! Past volunteers have offered dance classes, guitar-led sing-alongs and reading.
Please note that all volunteers are required to complete a working with children check prior to their visit. Please refer to the Parent Handbook for full details.
