A day in the life of a 3 year old Dolphin

Take a peek at what our 3 year old Dolphins can look forward to each day. Our educational program varies seasonally and takes into account the progressing interests of each group.

    8:30 - Arrival at kinder

    • Families arrive from 8:30 - be sure to always sign in using the digital kiosk in the kinder lobby
    • Children are encouraged to complete their tasks on entry to foster independence as they transition into kinder life
    • Children hang their bag on the hook with their name and animal icon
    • Children put their snack and drink bottles on the trolleys 
    • Be sunsmart! (Aug-Apr) Please apply sunscreen if it hasn’t been done at home and put on put on provided hats
    • Children should use the toilet and wash hands before they say goodbye to their parents and head outside to play with kinder friends
    • Note: If children are in nappies/pullups, please ensure they are clean and dry on arrival, please let the staff know if they need to be changed

    9:15 - 10:30: Everyone's in, let the day begin!

    • For the safety of all children we lock the doors at 9:15 (should you arrive later please ring the doorbell and we will attend asap) 
    • Children enjoy free time inside and outside - several activities are made available to suit a variety of sensory needs
    • 10:25 Jacinta (teacher) gives 5 minute transitional warning 
    • 10:30 Group mat time (inside) - Acknowledgment of Country

    10:30 - 12:30 Morning Activities

    • Children are encouraged to use the toilet and wash hands before snack time
    • Children collect snack and drink bottle and sit down to eat (picnic outside usually) 
    • 11:00 Children put their snack box back in their bag and their drink bottle on the trolley 
    • Play inside - children enjoy several options to develop motor skills and spark imaginative play
    • Examples include: arts and crafts, play dough
    • 12.25 Jacinta (teacher) gives 5 minute transitional warning

    12.30 - 1:30: Tidy up time & Lunchtime

    • Everyone tidies up inside activities getting ready for lunch
    • This looks like removing messy items, packing away playdough, drawing materials, pack puzzles, put blocks & putting cars on the shelf
    • Children assist with additional duties such as wiping tables with warm soapy water, sweeping the floor and putting out buckets for worm food
    • Children are encouraged to use the toilet and wash their hands before lunch
    • 1:00pm Lunchtime inside, sitting at tables 
    • 1:30 Children put their lunch boxes and drink bottles away in their bag

    1:30 - 2pm - Time for relaxation

    • Children are encouraged to rest their bodies in a variety of ways which include:
    • Lying still and listening to relaxing music with their eyes closed
    • Reading 
    • Enjoying the Calm Cube amongst soft pillows
    • Quiet colouring or drawing

    2:00 - 3:00pm - Mat time

    • Mat time can be used in a variety of ways to learn about our current topic, theme or interest
    • Examples include: Learning how to say 'hello' in different languages to celebrate other cultures
    • Learning new songs to sing together
    • Recognising and learning about birthdays or other celebrations from around the world, such as St. Patricks' Day or Diwali

    3:00-3:30pm - Outside Play

    • Our outdoor space has several areas to explore including a creek with a water pump, several climbing trees as well as swings and other aparatus
    • Children are encouraged to free play in our sand pit or make potions in the mud kitchen
    • Outside play time allows children to practise interacting with their peers to develop social skills and connections
    • Note: Children reapply their own sunscreen (Aug-Apr)
    • Note: severe inclement weather may result in undercover areas only or indoor play being recommended

    3:30 - 4:00 Pack up time and goodbye routine

    • Everyone helps to pack up outside before group mat time 
    • Mat time includes songs, story, science experiments, daily discussions and reflection
    • We also look ahead to what's coming up to stoke children's excitement for their next kinder session

    4:00pm - Home Time

    • Parents and caregivers have access to the lobby in advance of pick up to sign their child out via the digital kiosk, collect notices and artwork from their childs' pigeon hole and review personal learning journals or reflection books
    • Doors open promptly at 4pm
    • Children are to wait on the mat until a teacher calls their name when their parent/caregiver arrives
    • Families exit via the side door to ensure a smooth traffic flow
